The Gravedigger’s Daughter<\/h2>\n

Esther\u2019s father was a gravedigger who in his last will and testament left only one significant request: that one of his sons continue with his profession. None of his sons have the slightest interest in doing so. Esther is the only daughter in this traditional \u2018Sephardic\u2019 North African home, and embarks upon a struggle to carry on her father\u2019s legacy of humility and kindness over the objections of her family and community.\u00a0A feminist film with a twist of graveyard humor.<\/p>\n

Miriam, an elderly war widow tormented by her young husband\u2019s death, surrounds herself with archival recordings and writes his biography in her crumbling apartment. Though she wishes only to be left alone to complete her task, her aggressive neighbors, hungry to evict her, have other ideas.<\/p>\n

Pretty young Yuval imprisons the man who once sexually assaulted her in her apartment. A dark and dramatic game ensues in which the outcome is less critical than Yuval\u2019s realization that, as a rape victim, she is the one who will always be a hostage.<\/p>\n

Dafna, a social worker, pays a visit to Esti, the single mother of a little girl. Dafna must deal with the agonizing decision of whether or not Esti is a fit mother for her child. If not, the child will be taken into state custody.<\/p>\n

A military ambulance is called to evacuate a seriously wounded young soldier and bring him to a helicopter pad where he will be taken to hospital. Aboard the ambulance is a staff of three young soldiers, one of whom is Karen, a young female paramedic on her first tour of duty. Faced with life and death decisions in the ambulance, Karen will either succeed in bringing her emotions and fears under control \u2014 or fail, and be responsible for the death of a fellow soldier.<\/p>\n
